Hawthorne Global hosts the Junior League of New Orleans

03/02/2013

Hawthorne Global Aviation Services will host the Junior League of New Orleans newest fundraiser called “Touch a Truck” on Saturday, March 2, 2013.  This unique, interactive event offers children and families an opportunity to see, touch and explore their favorite big trucks and vehicles, including police cars, fire trucks, construction trucks, buses, cranes and, of course, airplanes.  Hawthorne has donated its 27,500 sf hangar for the event and will host multiple vehicle displays, several food truck vendors and surprise entertainment for kids of all ages.

“We recognize the important work the Junior League does for the New Orleans community and our facility at the Lakefront Airport is the ideal location for this unique event,” says Jay Taffet, Hawthorne’s general manager.  “We’re very excited to partner with such an important organization for this type of community activity.”

According to Junior League “Touch a Truck” co-chair Amy Robertson, “Many kids who live in the city have never seen anything like this before and I am very excited to help bring these vehicles to life for the children of New Orleans.”  The event promises fun and learning for local families, but maybe more importantly, an opportunity to meet the people who operate the vehicles in support of our community.  “This event is very important for the New Orleans community.  It not only gives children the opportunity to honk the horns and kick the tires of police cars and fire engines, but it also helps foster a great relationship between kids, law enforcement and firefighters towards building trust and a lasting connection,” says Junior League committee member Elise Guidry.

Tickets are $5 per individual and $20 for a family pack of 5 (children under one get in free).  The event is 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Hawthorne terminal located at 6401 Stars and Stripes Boulevard at the Lakefront Airport and there are plenty of food and beverages available through local food truck vendors.   Visit www.jlno.org for more information.
