Hawthorne Global Aviation Services plans to offer U.S. Customs inspections at the Cobb County Airport, with on-site staffing and a U.S. Customs inspection building.
The airport will be the first metro-area general aviation airport to offer on-site U.S. Customs inspection and staff, with customs services available in 2015.
"We are excited to break ground today on the customs building, and we anticipate that customs inspection services will be available starting in July 2015," Karl Von Hagel, airport manager for Cobb County Airport, said in a statement.
Cobb County Airport is the second busiest general aviation airport in Georgia and has the longest general aviation runway in the Atlanta area.
New Orleans-based Hawthorne Global Aviation Services, a provider of general aviation services, operates four Fixed Based Operators located at MacArthur Airport in Islip, N.Y. (KISP) Cobb County Airport in Atlanta (KRYY), Chicago Executive Airport in Chicago (KPWK) and Lakefront Airport in New Orleans (KNEW).
